picme ABOUT ME.

Cory Satermo, has been a local Stony Plain boy ever since the sixth grade,
graduating from Stony Plain Memorial High School in 2002. He went from there
to the journalism program at Grant MacEwan in Edmonton.

Satermo said he prefers the small town life compared to living in Edmonton, and is
contemplating moving back to Stony now that he has completed his Journalism program
at Grant MacEwan. “I like to be in a community where I know just about everyone and I can
feel comfortable walking down the streets anytime of the day,” said Satermo.

During his time at Grant MacEwan, Satermo found a passion for photography, which has now become one of his main hobbies.

The new reporter said he likes to find different ways to challenge himself in this art form and is constantly trying to improve his photography skills. Satermo is also an avid blogger, where he writes about everything from his day-to-day life to his favorite shows on TV.

He also hosts an Internet podcast show where a group of a few of his college peers chat about the current news in the video game industry. Every once in a while, Satermo also likes to turn on the TV and watch a good hockey game, though he said that it has been painful to watch the Oilers this year.

Furthermore, Satermo said he considers himself to be tech savvy and is constantly keeping up to date on the latest gadgets and gizmos. His friends and family are always turning to him for technological advice and/or help, anything from setting up their new computers, to turning on their DVD players.

One of Satermo’s aspirations is to become a writer for a video game website or to report on the newest tech gear. He also wants to move to Japan one day because he feels that is the tech centre of the world. However, he is not excited about the high volume of people living in that country.

“I really love the culture over there," he stated. "They have a good mix of tradition and technology."

GAMING AUTO-BIOGRAPHY (Excerpt from Ign.com/blogs)

I’ve been a serious gamer ever since I got my first video game console, the NES, when I was in grade two.
My parents could not afford two buy both a Nintendo console and a Sega one, so they chose one for me and ever since then
I’ve been behind Nintendo. I’m not one of those ravenous fan-boy who will flame you if you say one negative thing about Nintendo,
I just have a soft spot for them; I can admit that Nintendo makes mistakes, a lot of them sometimes (*cough* friend codes).

One of my primary aspirations is to work as an enthusiast journalist, specifically of course, as a game journalist. So I’m trying really hard to get my name out there and to build up my portfolio, hence my rational behind this blog site. I am currently freelancing with my college’s local print and write reviews for both games and movies to get practice.

My ultimate goal would be to work at one of my favorite gaming publications; IGN, 1UP and EGM come to mind. But at the moment, I’ll take work wherever I can find it, even if it is not related to gaming (gotta build a rep right?).

Besides gaming, I’m a hockey fan (yea yea.. I’m Canadian), I enjoy anime and I have a strong taste for dressing trendy. My favorite TV shows these days are LOST and HEROES, although Jericho is quite good too. I’m also very tech savvy with computers and software. I know my way around photoshop, Indesign and other key software vital for work as a contemporary journalist.
