Canada Day and Entwistle’s 100th Anniversary

Canada Day is a busy day for us reporters, what with all the special events and all. July 1 was also the small hamlet of Entwistle’s (out in the middle of nowhere, click here for a map) 100th anniversary celebration. So I was sent to the community for a photo assignment. Surprisingly, many people turned up for the event, which was mainly because it was their centennial milestone. Among the events include the standard parade along with a petting zoo, street performing clowns, bouncy rooms and the works. Here is a small sample of some of the shots I took. Okay so I driving on HWY 627 and was on my way home from a another photo shoot assignment when I noticed an accident ahead and pulled over. As a diligent reporter, I grabbed my camera and notebook and rushed to the scene. A red Ford truck travelling eastbound on Hwy 627 and a white Dodge truck travelling southbound on RGE RD 20 collided June 5 around 7:30 a.m. Police said the Dodge came through the intersection and struck the Ford on the driver’s side. The family of six in the Ford were on their way to the Canadian Horse Breed Show near Spruce Grove. The driver of the Dodge was taken to hospital by ambulance. The family was shaken up but did not require immediate attention.

I arrived before any emergency service. It was pretty intense.

The family of six were okay, except the 7-year-old boy’s face was banged up and bloody. The horses in the trailer appeared to be fine; they were quite calm.

The man in the white Dodge Pickup was taken to hospital via ambulance with chest injuries.

No charges have been issued as of yet.

Stony Plain Kinsmen Rodeo 2009

Here are some photos I took when on an assignment during the Stony Plain Kinsmen Rodeo, which takes place during Farmers’ Days, an annual event in the Parkland County area featuring a parade, midway rides, etc. I will be adding these photos to my photography portfolio. Tell me what you think?

Welcome everybody, Winter Light Festival ‘09

Alright, I thank you all for checking out what I hope to be many entries here. A couple weeks ago, I had a feature assignment to do, and I decided to cover the first, ‘Winter Light Festival,’ a multi-event celebrating winter as one of the most prominent seasons in Edmonton. Though it was required to take photos, I did anyways and I got a few decent shots out of it. The festival’s lantern coordinator, Dylan Toymaker, told me in an interview that nearly everything in the displays are eco-friendly, such as the high-density, but low-powered, LED lightning, or the recycle film canisters. Here are a few shots of his work.
